Family, Sibling & Individual Therapies

Family based and developmentally appropriate play and social work for two year old children and older when appropriate. This service is suitable for children who are building up skills to be used later in larger group settings. This engagement time uses motivating movement and affect-based play to provide opportunities to be successful at social interaction, communication, self regulation and emotional expression in a smaller, more contained and more closely facilitated setting. Utilizing the DIR theory and practice.

Peer Groups/Counseling & Social Skills Groups
Ages 4 - 6

A group offered by Anne Marie Nixon, PhD, LPC, NCC to create a "just right" atmosphere for social interaction. Targeting the following areas:

Social language
Cooperative play skills
Reading social cues
"How Does Your Engine Run?"
Regulation/modulation skills
Attention/focus

Peer Groups/Counseling & Social Skills Groups
Ages 6-12

A group offered by Anne Marie Nixon, PhD LPC, NCC to create a social environment focusing on peer interactions and communication strategies targeting the following areas:

Conversational skills; initiation, topic maintenance, closure
Reading verbal and nonverbal social cues
Expressing
a variety of emotions/feelings, preferences and imagination
Referential communication skills; giving coherent messages, providing meaningful feedback and using repair strategies
Developing communication acts to describe and explain

Handwriting Groups

Handwriting groups are offered with a unique approach addressing the many facets of handwriting. Activites will integrate foundation level neuromuscular skills, sensory processing and fine motor development as well as teaching and improving handwriting skills. Components of Handwriting Without Tears, Zaner-Bloser, First Strokes, Loops 'n Groups. Callibrobics, Brain Gym and music will be utilized.

Start to Write

Ages 5-6

This group will target the following areas:

Postural stability
Crossing midline and rotation
Strength and endurance
Rhythm and timing
Tactile awareness
Ocular motor skills, eye-hand coordination
In-hand manipulation skills
Pencil grasp and hand dexterity
Kinesthetic understanding of letters

Fun To Write

Ages 7-8

This group will target the same areas as Start To Write plus the following areas:

Spacing between letters and words
Print and beginning cursive writing

Get It Write

Ages 9 and older

This group will target the same areas as Fun To Write plus the following areas:

Quality of cursive writing
Writing sentences and paragraphs
